Trips: Challenging Day at Montauk

On Friday, July 20th, 7 FATC members headed down to Montauk. This was a graduation to trip for new FATC member, Scott Dougherty. Others that joined were Mike Bisaga, Glenn Haake, Brad Buchanan, Paul Schneider, Tim Welsh and Sid Aslin.  With mixed reports of fishing conditions, we were still optimistic for a good day as we headed to the park. Sid had been at Montauk all week and reported that fishing was good on black woolly buggers.  It turned out fishing WAS good all week, but it seemed to change just about the time we arrived on Friday.

Best success was with the black woolly, but a few fish were also caught with P&P midge and an ant pattern.
Several participants in the FATC Advanced Casting class tried some of their newly learned casting techniques while on the water.  Mike, Brad and Paul used a combination of aerial mends along with the snake roll cast with success. All proved to be very effective and made casting much more efficient.  Why have we not done this before now???
Join us in our next session of Advanced Casting to learn these techniques for yourself.
