Trips: Bachelor Party and New Grad??

Matt McClure and Kenny Klimes promised Connor Peters a “fishing bachelor party” before he gets married in two weeks.  So, since Connor had never been to Cardiac Hill to fish they decided to take him there.  So, as their bachelor prank, they blindfolded Connor, took him to the river and then chained him to a tree and left him there! Oh, I’m just kidding – we didn’t blindfold him!!!

Seriously, it was a fishing bachelor party and we were joined by Brad Buchanan who would be “graduating” from our last fly fishing class held this winter.  Brad had only tried fly fishing a few times before but was ready for the challenge of the Cardiac hill area.  The guys split up in the morning, although always in sight. Matt and Connor fished together to give Kenny and Brad plenty of room for Brad to practice all the techniques taught him in class.  The Cardiac hill area can be tough fishing at times but on this day it was kind to all of us as we caught fish all day.

Brad did an awesome job and caught the “quadfecta” by catching a rainbow, brown, smallmouth and giant chub during the day.  Brad showed great technique and as the day went on no fish escaped his net.  And Kenny didn’t have to yell at him once!! Matt and Connor hit some sweet spots and pulled in fish all day.  Unfortunately, Brad had to leave a little early and missed the late afternoon fishing as the other three worked their way closer to Suicide hill area.

The water was moving a little faster than normal but very manageable. It was off colored from all the rains so not as clear as it usually is.  Because of this the guys went “big” on the flies.  The best flies were San Juan worms, leech patterns and woolybugger patterns.  The egg sucking leech pattern with an orange bead did very well.

Upstream and downstream from the entry point proved to be great fishing. Cardiac Hill is fishing very good right now but PLEASE always check the water levels and speed on our web site before you go so you know it’s safe to fish.  Congrats to Brad on his graduation from the fly fishing class and also to Connor on his upcoming marriage.
