Service: FATC Helps Scouts Launch the New Year

On Saturday Sept 29th, 9 FATC brothers volunteered their time to help out with the Greater St Louis Area Council Cub Scout Launch. This is a 1 day event that attracts existing and new Scouts from around the area to experience what Scouting has to offer.

Mike Bisaga, Mike Chambers, Dave Beerbower, Gary Elliot, Bill Byington, Mark Stockhausen, Miles Meyer, Bill Lowery and Michael Brand ran the fly casting area. We had 5 casting stations, stocked with lots of felt trout, setup to work with the Scouts on their fly casting skills. Most Scouts were new to fly casting, although we did see some faces we recognized from previous Scout events. We even had some parents tell us that their Scout had asked for a fly rob after trying it out at our station. I guess fly fishing is not just for us old guys. The Scouts had a great time as evidenced by the big smiles and the  several repeat customer we had throughout the day. As usual, our guys  had as much fun as the kids did.

The FATC participates in 2-3 Scout event per year.  If you are interested in helping us out next time, just keep an eye out for announcements.
