Just got off the river.  The caddis have arrived.  Started fishing about 2:30 at the dam. After a couple hrs and one fish in the boat. Drifted down past the state park and saw significant caddis river right.  Switched to #16 elk hair caddis with a sparse shuck and got an 19″ brown.  Drifted to about Gaston’s and picked up a buddy.  Went back and made four more drifts across from Copper Johns and picked up a brown on each of four drifts, all larger than the first.  Caddis should be good for a couple more weeks.  The flows are now reasonable (< 15,000 cfs) and barring heavier than normal rain hopefully (perhaps wishful thinking) should stay reasonable.  In a few weeks we hope (a very hopeful bunch we fishermen) to see another sulfur hatch as good as last year.  Sulfurs get the fish going as much as the caddis.  A few weeks of sulfurs and then we can look for hopper (more accurately beetle) season, my favorite.
