I’m starting to tie some flies for the winter season. I need some Copper John’s for example. What else should I tie?

Definitely black zebra midges with a copper bead head and copper wire.

Fewer dry flies but generally the same flies we use all year. Since hatches are less then more nymphs and larva – midge larvae, pheasant tails, etc

Have you seen any new flies that you may add to your fly box? I see some in my e-mail inbox. Though I guess most are just variations of old standards.

      Hi Bill,

Pulling out the midge vice head…straining the eyes to tie smaller size flies, size 20-26. As mentioned midge patterns are prevalent in winter/late fall and mini leech patterns.  Looking forward to trying a new fly for me the balanced leech pattern. It’s a fun tie with the bead in front of the hook eye. Do a search engine on the balanced leech pattern, it will pull up a few videos on how to tie this pattern.

Gotta get on the water together!

      Tightlines,

      MO
