      Grasshoppers,

The fly shop has been filled with a subject near and dear to my heart – learning.  Let me hear from YOU – what is one area that you can improve on in your fly fishing??

-Fine tuning my presentation especially when fishing with an indicator.  Concentrating on making every drift a good drift with proper mends, rod tracking, weight etc.

-Just started euro-nymphing.  Learning tight-line nymphing.

The easiest answer is Everything, I thought the writer of the Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda article spied on a typical day of me fishing.

My current focus is to get the hook set and the fish in the net.  I seem to lose as many as I net, which is frustrating.   I can’t count the times when I think I’ve gotten a snag and react too slowly.

MEND, MEND,MEND!!!….Confused exactly when to mend upstream and downstream to prevent drag free presentation when using the nymphing with indicator technique.

      Reading the stream/river.

Get better at identifying aquatic insect (matching the hatch).

I feel like I was chased into euro nymphing. I dislike split-shot, thing-a-bobs, NZ indicaters, bushes and trees hanging on my leader or tippet. Weighted flies seem like the best way to get away from the junk or become a dry fly junkie. I have watched a ton of videos, I just need hours and hours on the water. I need the experience and some mentoring. Looking forward to the nymph class in April. Looking forward to the start of a new season.

Perhaps after our nymphing class we can start some round table discussions. Maybe, Euro nymph fly tying only.

If I’m not mistaken today is the Sensei’s Birthday.   I want to learn what it takes to grow old like the Sensei and still be able to fish without sitting in a wheelchair.

You are certainly right Mr. Mcclurey. It is Sensei’s B-day. Happy B-Day sir and many more.
