On a recent FATC trip to Montauk several of the guys decided to fish the cable area downstream, which is outside the park.
One of the fellas had a fishing license but not a trout stamp. To be safe he stayed in the lowest part of the park.

A discussion ensued about whether or not a trout stamp was required to fish outside the park.
Some of the literature was confusing on the point. The sign seemed to say that a trout stamp was only required if you were going to possess/keep fish (legal size of course).
So is a trout stamp required to fish outside the Park on the Current River ?
or is a fishing license sufficient provided one fishes Catch and Release?

[A lifetime permit makes the issue a moot point.]

Dan great question. I copy and paste from the MDC website concerning the regulation on trout permit/ stamp. My interpretation of the regulation is a trout permit/stamp is not needed in the blue ribbon sections of rivers on when you have possession of trout for example on a stringer. I look forward to someone confirming for us?

      Notes:
This permit is required to possess trout, except in trout parks where you must purchase a daily trout fishing tag.

A Trout Permit is required for all winter fishing in trout parks and for all fishing year-round in Lake Taneycomo upstream from U.S. Highway 65 bridge.

You must also have a fishing permit or qualify for an exemption.

Correction; ribbon sections of rivers only when you have possession of trout for example on a stringer.

Now that sounds better, hit submit too quickly in my last response.?

Sounds like your question was answered.
In ribbon areas you must have a fishing license always and if you “possess “ trout then you must have a trout permit. During catch and keep season (summer) in the trout parks you must have a fishing license and buy a trout “tag” for each day you fish. You can only keep four trout. Once you have four trout you can not fish anymore the rest of the day. You are not allowed to buy a second tag. You are not allowed to “cull” fish from your stringer. You can only keep fish, no more than four, on one stringer – your stringer. In other words you can’t put fish on your stringer that belongs to a friend – say if he forgot his stringer.  What most don’t realize you MUST have a trout permit and license to fish in the park during catch and release season ( you can not keep fish). You don’t not need a trout tag (they don’t sell them during catch and release season). Lake Taneycomo, where we all wade fish, you need a trout permit with your license even though you don’t possess any fish. SO moral of story always get a trout permit and you’ll always be covered. And YES, a Missouri resident Lifetime license does include a trout permit. If over 65 years of age you don’t need a license to fish but still need a trout permit wherever I stated above.

      MofishMo,

In your last post, it said that the Trout permit was required for winter fishing in the parks where you cannot possess fish and Lake Taneycomo. Why wouldn’t you be required to have the permit on blue-ribbon areas? It makes sense to me that the permit would be required on the ribboned areas of a stream whether you possessed a fish or not. https://focusedfishing.com/guide-service/license-by-phone
