I’ve been interested in getting into using the technique of the plastic bead with the bare hook 2” below ever since having luck on it in Colorado.
Seems like an excellent dropper set up.
however, being the stubborn guy I am, I refuse to buy them since the shipping costs more than the beads.
Does anyone want to go in together on a purchase of different colors and sizes, so we can split the costs?
Also, anyone have suggestions on which colors and sizes to buy ?  (Sensei??)

They are sold through: TroutBeads.com I’ll coordinate an order if anyone else is game.

      Stag,

If I recall, wasn’t the proper hook selection a key to this technique as well?  Was it a straight shank hook with a straight eye?  Do you remember?

      Stag,

My humble opinion. I use a curved barbed hook size 8-10 set 2 – 1 1/2 inches from the bead (learned in Alaska).  I also have several made up ahead of time and I “wrap” them around a piece of foam 3″ x 3″ with slits cut at both ends.

But with that said I bought my beads from Troutbeads.com.  I would recommend that you get the “Rocky Mountain Selection”. They are smaller beads that imitate the trout and sucker eggs which we have here. If you get about 5-6 guys together on this purchase and you buy the RM-01 selection then you will all have various colors and sizes to chose from. Contact Jim Craig who runs the FATC fly tying session for FATC and he may be able to find a few guys in the session that will go along with you. BTW his next session is about tying egg patterns.

      ( Reply regarding hooks)

yes, the hooks were are a little different type. The pointy barb end was slightly offset, so that if laid flat on a table the barbed end would angle upwards.
also, the eyes were NOT turned down but were in line with the shank.
I thought the hook sizes were size 12 with a somewhat shorter than normal shank.

      Stag,

I wanted to add. Remember using this egg bead dropper technique tied off the hook eye of a leech pattern. I tried in MO and it works. I use a red size 12 offset egg hook below the bead. It’s another technique to use to bring fish to the net. If you don’t get a response from anyone wanting to go in with you on a egg bead order. I have a few I will share with you whenever we’re on the water together. BTW…if you don’t want to pay shipping costs Feather Craft sells the trout beads brand plus our FATC discount, just sayin!

      Tightlines!
