Well, another winter catch and release season is ending. Darn, I wanted to fish it more but at times didn’t get the chance.  After February 14th the trout parks will close for two weeks to “freshen up” and then the catch and keep season begins. Don’t forget you can still fish outside the parks during this two week period. And I will. But the crowds come back and rightly so since they pay their fees.  The weather will warm and the sunny days will be back. We will start looking at fishing outside of the state. Every year it happens. The season ends and we learn more and more — by going and fishing.  See you on the water!

I didn’t get out like I had hoped either. I found myself with some time on the Sunday before Valentines day.  My son was off and willing to go.  I gave him the choice of either Montauk or Bennett Springs.  He chose Bennett, so to Bennett we went.  Unfortunately, the wind kicked up a little while we were there, and it was getting difficult to beat the chill even though we were both layered up pretty well.  My son managed to catch a trout and a sculpin of all things.  I ended up with 3 in the net.

I’ll count the day as a win on many fronts!
