Fly Shop Event: First FATC Advanced Casting Class is in the Books

Our first FATC Advanced Casting class wrapped up last week.  5 FATC members completed all 4 sessions with a few others that attended most sessions.  The advanced casting class consisted of 4, 2 hour sessions over the last 8 weeks.  Participants were provided a plan of skills to work on for each session at home.  They were also given lots of resources to help them learn and master the skills.  After two weeks of working on the skills at home, the group would get together and work together.during the group sessions. Participants would not only work on their own skills, but would help each other as well.  It was a group effort. That was the idea of the class. We want guys to understand something well enough to explain it to someone else.

Whether fairly new to fly fishing or if you had been fishing for years, over the 4 sessions, there was a little something for everyone to learn.  We worked on a variety of skills, and even if you we didn’t “master” them all, everyone saw great improvement is some way.

Some of the skills we covered::
Basic overhead casting
Casting at different angles and speeds
Roll casts
Basic single hand Spey casts
Aerial mending
Presentation casts
Accuracy and distance
and more…

All the guys that participated in this session really enjoyed it and found it very beneficial.
If you would like to participate next time, keep an eye on the FATC calendar for an announcement.

Sorry for the limited pictures.  The official photographer had an equipment malfunction right after the final class and lost all the pictures he had taken from the sessions.
