  After several years and two sets of aluminum bars my dear Foot Tractors soles have passed. I have opted for a Orvis Pro Boa boot but I want aluminum cleats so I have gotten a set of Rock Treads. Before I drill holes in my new river kicks, any advice or recommendations for installation of Rock Treads. Thanks. Mike Enger 910 452-2162

  I have installed Rock Treads in my last two pairs of boots. Just be careful not to drill holes too close to the edge of the boot. That is because you must have enough space between the center of your hole and the side of the boot for the circular surface of the female lock down nut to fit inside your boot without hitting the side of the boot. Sorry that explanation is so awkward. I hope it makes sense. Also, you will probably want to put something like Dr. Scholls’ gel inserts in your boots to protect your wader booties. The lock down nuts are smooth, but you might have a screw that slightly comes up through the surface of those nuts. Good luck. I am sure you will like them.

  Jim’s suggestion for inserts is key. I had to learn how to repair the booties because I didn’t do this….

  Thanks for the response, Jim and Dave. I am now rocking the Rock Treads on the Orvis Pro rubber boa boots. Gave them a good test today on White R. limestone and am very pleased. These boots have a removable insole which made it simple to make a near perfect template to locate drill holes on the bottom of the sole and avoid the interference problem Jim speaks of.
  
  Anyone wanting to put aluminum cleats on their boots (I have found they are superior to carbide studs) should go to the Rock Treads web page and find the Tim Flagler installation videos.
